“Professional Dirtbag: From Dumpster Hauls to Big Walls” with Brittany Goris

"Professional Dirtbag," our feature film, showcases the story of one of the world's leading trad climbers (and dumpster divers): Brittany Goris. Brittany has now sent some of the hardest cracks on the continent as she enters the elite echelons of crack climbing. Fueled by dumpster diving hauls alongside an aging trad climbing rack, Brittany is armed with an unrelenting and inspiring passion for following her dreams while encouraging others to do the same.

The film follows Brittany's remarkable journey as she sets out on her biggest challenge to date, a challenge that — true to her Dirtbag roots — she completed on minimal means (and experience). Join us as Brittany sets her sights on her first ever big wall climb: an attempt to not only climb, but to free-climb the legendary Salathé Wall of El Capitan. Uniting her honed skills on slab, off-width, cracks of all sizes, as well as her composure while climbing over marginal gear placements, the Salathé Wall calls on all of Goris' abilities while she learns big wall systems on the go. This film captures Brittany's historic feat, as she becomes the fourth woman to free climb the route, while exploring the Dirtbag Climbing Community and interweaving inspiring tales of her climbing heroes in a time-blending narrative. Featuring El Capitan in Yosemite National Park and other iconic climbing areas across the US, the film specifically explores the story and honors the legacy of one of her heroes: Todd Skinner, whose first free ascent of El Capitan via the Salathé Wall with Paul Piana in 1988 set new standards in climbing. In addition to the stories of Brittany and Todd, the film features renowned athletes and storytellers in the rock climbing community like Paul Piana, Amy Skinner, Lynn Hill, Mark Hudon, SJ Lee, Mary Eden, Luke Mehall, Dean Fidelman, and Kaya Lindsay.

Film 2: “Necronomicon: Cracking the Limits” with Mary Catherine Eden

Necronomicon, our short film, follows Mary Catherine Eden as she becomes the 10th woman in history to climb 5.14 trad. To accomplish this, Mary set into a wilderness area deeply rooted in her heart, and set out to climb the seemingly impossible Necronomicon route. The 100-foot roof crack overlooks an over 1,000-foot drop into the base of Canyonlands National Park, Utah. Her unique effort on tackling one of the hardest roof cracks in the world proves insightful into the specific techniques and approaches an elite-level crack climber uses to overcome the obstacles in her path (some of the same techniques people from across the world learn from Mary and other elite crack climbers at her crack camps). Climbing at her limit has taught Mary how to break a seemingly impossible goal into achievable steps, confront the most vulnerable parts of herself, leverage failures into opportunities to grow, and dismantle self-imposed or societal arbitrary ceilings and limitations; and the film provides an inspiring example for others to do the same with their own goals. The film also features athletes including Tom Randall and Mercadi Carlson.

Ticket Cost: 20 dollars plus sales tax. There is a $1.25 fee on international card transactions. This film has been a passion project and intense labor of love for our team and those involved. We're grateful for your support as in addition to being a fundraiser for our hosting climbing gyms, clubs, and organizations around the world, it also helps SkyRooted to continue scheduling these community events on the tour, and helps to cover some of the costs of the film as well as submissions with the traditional and mountain film festival circuit.
